Are you hungry to make new and exciting images? Do you love to capture the exquisite beauty of the human form in motion? Sounds like two days of dance photography would be your thing. Join us on the Let’s Dance! portfolio building weekend and photograph a riot of classical and contemporary dance styles in one of the most opulent and exciting locations in the UK.
Who? Bring on the dancers…
Dance photography is such a broad term but what links all dance genres together is movement and emotion; that heady combination is what makes it such a fascinating subject to shoot. Our professional dancers are drawn from the worlds of classical ballet, musical theatre and commercial performance to provide you with an electric mix of dance styles. You will capture the sublime elegance of the classical ballerina en pointe; the angles and shapes of razor-sharp contemporary ballet; the funk and flamboyance of modern pop/jazz moves. What you will witness is story-telling through the art of dance, on every page another rich and wonderful character to photograph.
Where? Setting the scene
Performers of this calibre deserve a grand stage - and so do you. That’s why we have chosen Carlton Towers. This palatial family home is a Grade I listed building in the Victorian Gothic-revival style and set in 250 acres of parkland. Located in a rural corner of North Yorkshire, Carlton Towers has all the splendour and fascination you would expect from a stately home, each room another visual delight. It has been describes as combining history and beauty on an epic scale and nobody could argue with that.
Carved oak panelling; lavishly ornate fireplaces and ceilings; ancestral paintings and wall hangings; wide imposing stairs and hand-painted antique furniture: everywhere you look there are interesting backdrops for your shots. We will provide the lighting equipment but there is also a wealth of natural light. Long windows in the state rooms, leaded panes and stained glass give the place a wonderful ambience with the glow from table lamps and crystal chandeliers to add more interesting possibilities. Outside, more opportunities still. A sweeping stone staircase, acres of manicured lawn and a beautiful formal garden. Art meets Art. Our dancers will be in their element.
Assistance? The Tech Boys
You will be in a small group of four photographers so there is plenty of time to get the shots. Each group will have a technical and lighting assistant to help and advise. With these guys around, you won’t have to waste precious time setting up lights; with a minimum of testing, you’re ready to shoot.
